Liberty Unveils a New Chapter

Words by Allegra Salvadori

Doha Design District, the creative heart of Msheireb Downtown Doha, has unveiled a new chapter in its design story with the opening of Liberty Home — the first international showroom by the legendary British brand. In partnership with Msheireb Properties, the launch marks a defining moment for the city’s creative evolution, introducing a space where 150 years of British artistry meet the contemporary spirit of Qatar.

Inside Liberty Home, design unfolds as an experience rather than a display. The showroom reveals a curated world of fabric archives, bespoke furniture, and exclusive objects that honour the brand’s commitment to craftsmanship and innovation. Every detail has been imagined through a Doha-specific lens, blending Liberty’s signature florals and Art Nouveau motifs with subtle architectural cues drawn from the geometry and textures of Msheireb. Two specially commissioned artworks, created exclusively for the opening, further root the project in local creativity.

At its centre lies The Doha Voyage, a Qatar-exclusive textile collection conceived as a tribute to the city’s design identity. Inspired by the interplay between British trade ships and traditional Qatari dhow boats, the patterns echo journeys of exchange and discovery — a visual dialogue between heritage and horizon.

“The opening of Liberty Home Msheireb is not just the launch of a store, but the beginning of a new chapter in Doha’s design journey,” said Eng. Ali Al Kuwari, CEO of Msheireb Properties. “Our goal has always been to foster innovation and cultural collaboration, partnering with legendary brands to create a prominent design movement in the creative heart of Doha.”

Extending beyond the retail experience, Liberty has reimagined four rooms and suites at Mandarin Oriental, Doha — including the Baraha Presidential Suite — into immersive interior installations that reinterpret the brand’s design philosophy within a luxury hospitality context.

Completing this universe is the debut of the Liberty & Co Café, the brand’s first café concept, where British culinary flair meets textile-inspired presentation in an elegant and playful ode to Liberty’s visual heritage.

“We are honoured to share our artistic vision for craft, fabric, interiors, beauty, and living with Msheireb Properties in Doha,” said Adil M-Khan, CEO of Liberty Group. “As Liberty celebrates 150 years of dedication to good design, we are proud to partner with Msheireb to introduce a unique interiors destination in the heart of Doha. Together, our commitment to art and innovation is designed to delight, while expressing our gratitude to Qatari customers and to visitors from around the world.”

This collaborative project — between Liberty, Doha Design District, and Msheireb Properties — signals a broader ambition: to position Doha as a global destination for design and cultural dialogue.

“With this launch, our goal was not just to invite the audience to see the store, but to truly experience it,” noted Dana Kazic, Director at Doha Design District. “It represents a milestone for the wider design community in Doha and the beginning of a strategic partnership that sets the foundation for ongoing and future collaborations.”

As part of its commitment to community and education, Liberty also collaborated with VCUarts Qatar students to design window installations inspired by the movement of the sea — a poetic gesture toward the next generation of creatives.

More than a new showroom, Liberty Home Doha stands as an invitation to explore how design can connect worlds — weaving together craft, innovation, and cultural storytelling into a shared language of beauty and imagination.
