Eid Gestures: A Weekend of Community at Alserkal Avenue

Words By Allegra Salvadori

March 18, 2026

As Eid approaches, celebration is often carried in small gestures: sharing sweets with neighbours, visiting loved ones, gathering around a table. From 20 to 22 March, Alserkal Avenue brings these rituals into the public realm with Eid Gestures, a three-day programme designed to bring the community together through music, food, workshops and film.

Set across the district’s courtyards and cultural spaces, the initiative invites visitors to reconnect through moments of shared experience.

The weekend begins on Friday, 20 March, with music in The Yard. DJ Necip from Growhouse sets the tone from 4–6PM, followed by Leon of Nightjar from 6–8PM, whose eclectic selections move between jazz, funk and deep club sounds.

Saturday becomes the heart of the celebrations. From 10AM to 5PM, Warehouse 46 hosts children’s workshops organised by thejamjar, The Happy Studio, Strawberry Fields and Wisdom Warehouse, offering painting, portrait sessions and hands-on craft activities. Music continues in The Yard with a DJ set by Shabab from 12–4PM, while the Basma Choir performs at 5PM in front of Concrete.

In the spirit of Eid generosity, eleven cafés across the Avenue—including Nightjar, Lila Molino, Pekoe, Subko and Manna Burger—will offer one special dish free of charge from 12–3PM while supplies last, turning the simple act of sharing food into a collective celebration.

The evening concludes with an outdoor screening curated by Cinema Akil. At 6:30PM, audiences will watch Lift Like a Girl, the inspiring story of a young Egyptian weightlifter rising from a modest training camp to international competition.

On Sunday, 22 March, the weekend closes with a listening session by KitchenSync Radio from 4–6PM, followed by a DJ set from Dubai-based musician Tarik Omar from 6–8PM.

In essence, Eid Gestures reminds us that celebration often begins with the smallest acts: a shared meal, a song in a courtyard, a moment spent together.
